From time to time your backyard birds will need a “health spot check” or face stressful situations like a sudden change in weather or a sick bird in the flock, where further assistance is required. This is where Avaplex comes back into play. To properly follow the Better Flock™ program, we suggest using Avaplex the first 7 days of bringing your new babies home. Once they've settled in for the week, use Nutriplex-W daily, except every 2 weeks when you supplement with Avaplex for 2-3 days in order to spot check and boost health. During any signs of stress, illness, or environmental/weather changes, stop your daily Nutriplex-W use and switch to Avaplex immediately, and provide to your chickens for a minimum of 3-7 days (or however long the stressor lasts if longer than a week) to alleviate issues. After it passes, you may return to typical Better Flock program.

The Better Flock™ program is a comprehensive solution that will typically eliminate health and stress challenges and optimize your bird’s wellbeing. Because it is so complete, in almost all scenarios, no other additives or supplements are necessary to include in your chicken’s water. If you still feel compelled to include other supplements, Avaplex® and Nutriplex-W™ are safe to use alongside other ingredients and additives, but this isn’t recommended since it's not necessary.

Electrolytes are essential minerals or ions like sodium, calcium, and potassium to help regulate body function and are commonly supplemented during times of dehydration. Salt is an inexpensive ingredient some companies will add to ingredients list just to market their products as “electrolyte boosters.” Typically, poultry diets already contain a precise balance of electrolytes to keep your poultry functioning properly, and Nutriplex-W™ helps your birds unlock and digest the nutrients in their diet. Unless chickens cannot eat properly, additional electrolyte supplementation in drinking water is not required, and therefore excessive. Alternatively, we recommend a better solution.

When using the Better Flock™ program, essential digestion and uptake of electrolytes already present in diets is ensured. Avaplex® focuses on solving the root of the problem, stopping stress in its tracks, and preventing disease before your chickens suffer, eliminating times of dehydration or the need for additional electrolytes. (Think: prevention > treatment.) Additionally, the oregano essential oil in both Avaplex and Nutriplex-W™ helps with palatability and therefore increased water intake.

It’s also important to note the overuse of supplements like electrolytes can cause nutritional imbalances or even reach toxic levels if not implemented properly. While not needed, if you still feel like you'd like to include other supplements in your chicken's water, Avaplex® and Nutriplex-W™ are safe to use alongside other ingredients and supplements.

In most cases the answer is no. Purchased chicken feeds from reputable brands contain a balanced amount of essential vitamins and minerals. Additionally, treats, tasty snacks, and other food sources found by free range hens can be packed full of nutrients. That said, there is one significant note: without the use of a daily digestive aid, chickens are not always able to fully digest their food sources. This means that even though the right amount of nutrients are going in, there can be significant waste of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients that instead of being absorbed and metabolized end up excreted in fecal matter, leaving your feathered friends lacking.

While the “band aid fix” to partially solve this issue can be to offer your chickens water-soluble vitamins and minerals, your hens still may come up short on other essential nutrients. Plus, you already paid for the nutrients that are in the feed. Why pay for the same ingredient twice?

Our daily digestive aid product Nutriplex-W™ aims to solve the root of the problem. By enhancing fermentation and enzymatic processes, your hen’s digestive system will be able to properly brake down feed components, even hard to digest treats or niche diets, and ensure an optimal absorption of essential nutrients. This will result in better quality eggs, prettier feathers, and happier birds! There may be very select times when your feathered friend can’t properly eat (i.e. post an injury) that adding vitamins & minerals to water may be beneficial during this time and would be the exception. While not needed (and caution should be taken to not overuse supplements like vitamins and minerals so as to not cause nutritional imbalances or even reach toxic levels), if you still feel compelled to include other supplements in your chickens' water on a regular basis, Avaplex® and Nutriplex-W™ are safe to use alongside other ingredients and supplements.

We recommend supplementing chickens (and ducks and quail) of any age for a couple days in a row every two weeks to spot check health and keep immune systems operating at peak performance.

Additionally, reach for the red label (Avaplex®) anytime when needed to prevent, reduce, or recover from stressors such as disruptions in feeding, housing issues, unpleasant weather conditions, integration of new birds, signs of illness/disease, or injury. We recommend using Avaplex 7 days straight during these times of stress or illness to ensure optimal therapeutic aid.

One 100g pouch of Avaplex® is good for approximately 100 gallons of poultry drinking water, and a 300g jar is good for approximately 300 gallons of poultry drinking water.

Each package gives your backyard flock immune and digestive health for several weeks to even months, depending on your flock size and water consumption.

Both Avaplex® and Nutriplex-W™ powder in their containers have a package shelf life of two years (please refer to your specific label's expiration date). Once you scoop and mix into your poultry drinking water, we recommend replacing the water every 48 hours.

Yes, all the ingredients in Avaplex® and Nutriplex-W™ are considered of natural origin and classified as safe by AAFCO. Both products can be used by certified-organic egg producers, too (be sure to always consult with your organic certifier, and feel free to reach out to us as we have worked with a few certifiers for these products as well).

Calculating normal water consumption can vary drastically depending on many factors: age of birds, number of birds, weight of birds, breed, location, and temperature. As a good rule of thumb, if you are following the Better Flock™ recommended program, a flock of about 20 hens will utilize approximately one 100g pouch of Avaplex® and one 500g jar of Nutriplex-W™ over two months. This means less trips to the store for single use supplement pouches and less packaging waste affecting our environment!
